Essay on Childhood Memories for Students and Children ( 500 Words)

The memories of childhood have special significance in one’s life and are cherished by almost everyone. As one grows up, one longs more and more for his childhood, the best period of one’s life.

A child has no work worries or anxieties. He is free from the stress and unpleasantness of adult life. His motto of life remains “eat, drink and be merry.”

The charm of childhood cannot be forgotten. These memories leave an everlasting impression on one’s life.

The same is the case with me. When I recollect the days of my childhood, I feel highly delighted; it was a pleasant period that I spent in high spirits.

During my childhood, I was carefree and had no worries at all. I used to wander like a deer in the open fields, enjoying the natural beauty of the pastures.

Certain incidents are still fresh in my memory. For instance, at the age of seven, I suffered a severe attack of typhoid.

In the absence of a proper diagnosis, I was reduced to a skeleton. After taking medicine for a sufficiently long period, I was cured. The doctor advised me to go to some hill station.

So, my father took me to Shimla. Once a juggler with two monkeys came to our street.

He made the monkeys perform a short skit that had us nothing in laughter. Mr Monkey fell in love with Miss Monkey, but she refused to marry him.

He then donned a colourful coat and went to her house and asked her father for her hand in marriage. He agreed and they were ceremoniously united in marriage.

All the while the man kept up a narrative which was all the more amusing because of his serious expression.

Another incident, which I still remember, is the swimming experience. It was a Sunday when my friends and I went for a picnic at Okhla.

Some boys were expert swimmers but unluckily, I did not know how to swim. My friends dived into the river and compelled me to do the same.

Soon, I was caught by the current of water and was carried away swiftly. There was every possibility of my being drowned but due to the valour of one of my friends, I was rescued and brought to the banks of the river. I was very grateful to him because he gave me a new lease on life.

The memories of my childhood days are still fresh in my mind. Although I do wish that those days, full of pleasure, come back, I know that it is a thing of the past.

Time flies on wings. I have to move on. It is this beautiful period that has often been eulogized by poets and writers.

Recollecting the past is to plunge ourselves into a state of melancholy. Wordsworth, the immortal poet of England and a great worshipper of nature, often describes his childhood days in his poems.

Childhood, according to him, is full of pleasures, thrill, and entertainment. As I grow older, I look back with great nostalgia to my childhood days filled with fun and frolic. I know they will never come back and hence I shall cherish those memories till my last day.

Everyone loves to dive into the sweet childhood memory and wants to find himself in that life. However, such is my feeling about my childhood and I think that all the childhood memories are the sweetest.

Childhood was not just a world full of miracles, it was a miraculous world. Therefore, if there was something unpleasant, it was only in the sense of childhood.

I sometimes miss my childhood, especially in my success and failure. I wish I could go back to my childhood and start my life again. Sometimes I laugh alone thinking about what little thing made me happy or sad.

Childhood memories

I was born in a specific village on the river Meghna. I had my childhood, above all, in a touch of nature, in a picture-like village surrounded by flowers, trees, plants and vines, in a vast green meadow mile after mile along the river.

I remember the playground where I used to play various country games like Dariabandh, Ha-Do-Do, Golachat, Kansas, Ganguly, hide-and-seek, football etc. with my teammates.

While bathing and swimming in the river, we used to play name games and often forgot to return home. The wild joy I got from playing is unforgettable and incomparable.

Many of my childhood memories are associated with primary school and village Maktab were my best friend was my elder brother.

We were serious students, yet we were afraid of the result of the final exam. When I stood above my brother in the merit list, I felt very sorry for him. Once I climbed a tree and started singing there.

Suddenly I looked down and saw that the Arabic teacher (maulvi) of our Maktab was standing there. I was so ashamed that day that I did not go to the Maktab for a few days.

As a child, I was always curious about everything. I used to look for the bird’s nest.

Once I collected a young stork from a nest and nursed it for a few days and then let it fly.

I was very surprised when a newborn cow or goat was born somewhere near our house and I used to go there every day.

I also sowed the seeds of different flowers and vegetables and watched every day how they germinate and grow slowly. During stormy summer days, I always kept an eye on whether the mangoes fell down and picked them up.

Now I came to know that green mangoes taste delicious in my childhood days.

As soon as the rainy season started, the water in the river increased day by day and at one point reached near our house.

Then I used to catch fish by catching fish and used to take baths with new water two or three times a day with great pleasure.

Baisakhi Mela in that year was the long-awaited occasion where I spent all my savings to buy various attractive toys.

The saddest memory of my childhood is the feeling of death. When I first realized that I had to die like everyone else, I would often hide and cry but no one knew why.

I think that childhood memory is vivid and clear every day and is never destroyed. It is always a source of happiness and personal education for all.

“It has always been present with everyone,” says Julian Barnes, “the memories of childhood were dreams that stayed with you after you woke up”.
